MacArthur grantee Our Courts, a Web-based education project to teach civics to middle school children championed by former Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor, is having a positive effect on learning about civics, according to an outside evaluation of the program. The evaluation reports that 75 percent of the school children who play the project’s three online games—Do I Have a Right?, Supreme Decision, and Argument Wars—continue to play the games after school on their own time. Since the games were launched online in August 2009, together they have been played more than 50,000 times, and the website has received more than 300,000 hits. Thirty-seven states have signed on to use Our Courts in their schools. In addition to the games, in which students argue Supreme Court cases, the project includes lesson plans and online resources.
