May 27, 2026

As part of its “Why History Matters” series of public talks, the UCLA Meyer and Renee Luskin Department of History hosts MacArthur Fellows Ahilan Arulanantham (2016) and  Kelly Lytle-Hernandez (2019) along with UCLA professor Rubén Hernández León in conversation about the state of U.S. immigration policy. Moderated by Abel Valenzuela, Jr., the Fellows bring their expertise in history and law to bear in examining the legality, cost, and impact of aggressive incarceration and deportation programs, and make recommendations for reforms to the immigration system.
