Unless current policies are reformed, the national debt will continue to grow, making a sovereign debt crisis, like those in Ireland and Greece, inevitable, according to a new paper by Rudy Penner of the Urban Institute. Penner co-chaired a MacArthur-supported, non-partisan committee that offered policymakers multiple ways to stabilize the national debt.
