Current population trends suggest a demand for millions of new housing units over the next ten years, according to a report from the Bipartisan Policy Center, which is supported by MacArthur.  The State of the Residential Construction Industry details the important role the residential construction industry plays in the nation’s economy and employment base and predicts that economic and social impact will continue for years to come despite housing’s highly cyclical nature.  The report recommends that policies designed to spur a short-term housing recovery should consider the long-term effects on the residential construction industry’s operations and potential shifts in future housing demand and supply.
