Adopting a continuum of care approach to maternal and newborn health can significantly improve their health outcomes, according to a study by Family Care International, a recipient of the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. The study asserts that strategies for improving maternal and newborn health are closely linked, and outlines several health interventions that had a positive impact on mother and infant, including the provision of nutrition, vaccination, and family planning information.
