Faith-based models of accountability are helping Pentecostal priests in Nigeria change behavior to counter corruption that is harming their communities. The Priests Peace and Justice Initiative, the social arm of the Palace of Priests Assembly, developed a Manual on Building Accountability Spaces for Pentecostal Church Leaders and Workers with MacArthur support. The comprehensive guide aims to equip church communities in Nigeria with biblical, ethical, and practical behavior change tools to promote accountability and combat corruption within and beyond the church.
They point out that faith offers language and systems that people use and relate to in their daily lives to foster accountability and trust. The manual reviews spiritual models of accountability, the church’s accountability challenges, and frameworks for accountability rooted in biblical and governance principles. It invites engagement with texts and provides tools to create action plans for transparency and integrity in church communities.
