Orangutan

An updated Red List assessment by the MacArthur-supported International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources finds that growing human pressures on whale sharks, wing head sharks, and Bornean orangutans are putting these species at increasing risk of extinction. Both shark species are now listed as endangered and Bornean orangutans are now critically endangered, just one step from extinction. The shark species are declining due to unregulated fishing, despite conservation efforts in India, the Philippines, and Taiwan. The Bornean orangutan populations are declining as the forests they live in are turned into palm, rubber, or paper plantations.
