MacArthur joined several local foundations in supporting the activities of the Chicago Police Accountability Task Force, created to review the processes that hold Chicago’s police officers accountable, as well as oversight and training for the department. The Task Force issued a report, which reflected input from a diverse range of experts, organizations, and individuals across the city, showing lack of discipline for police officers and inequality in how different members of the public are treated by police. The report put forth more than 100 recommendations to address the need for community empowerment, lack of accountability for police, and other systemic problems. MacArthur and other funders supported the Task Force to ensure it had the necessary independence to provide a thorough and candid report, in the hopes of advancing progress in community-police interactions.
