Reducing Maternal Mortality in Rural Areas

In 2004, a MacArthur-funded pilot project by the Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecologists of India and JHPIEGO demonstrated how to reduce maternal mortality in rural areas by training non-specialist medical providers in emergency obstetric care. Now the Government of India has signaled its support for the program by announcing that it will provide approximately $4.7 million to assist FOGSI in scaling up the pilot project across the country.
