New Book Draws on Conservation Grantee's Assessment

A new book, Climate Change Effects on the Biodiversity of the Tropical Andes, offers an integrative analysis of climate change and biodiversity in the tropical Andes and the first synthesis of region-wide biodiversity patterns for a range of plant and animal life. It draws on a MacArthur-supported assessment by the Inter-American Institute for Global Change Research of the research and institutional needs to cope with the effects of climate change on Andean biodiversity. The assessment brought together more than 400 scientists and policy makers from 12 countries to explore biodiversity conservation and climate change adaptation in the tropical Andes of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, and Peru. The Institute is now working to provide Andean countries with a standard methodology for estimating climate change risks and documenting biodiversity at the species and ecosystem levels along elevational divides.
