Mississippi officials are adopting an approach supported by MacArthur and the Pew Center on the States that is designed to help states assess the costs and benefits of policy options and specific programs and use that data to make budget decisions based on results. The Pew-MacArthur Results First Initiative is currently active in 12 other states. Mississippi will first implement the system to measure the effectiveness of criminal justice and corrections programs and could expand to other areas.
