An international initiative called Science Learning+ will provide $15 million to support research about learning outside the classroom, exploring the most effective practices and building the evidence in this area. The initiative is the result of a funding collaborative among the Wellcome Trust, US National Science Foundation, the UK Economic and Social Research Council, Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation, Noyce Foundation, and MacArthur. The goal is to learn more about, evaluate, and maximize the impact of informal learning experiences, and to understand how informal environments may help widen access to science for young people of all backgrounds.
