An emergency transport program piloted in four northern states of Nigeria by the MacArthur-supported Health Partners International has helped to bring 19,000 pregnant women in emergency situations to health facilities since 2009. The program, which assessed how best to incentivize drivers, reached nearly 1,600 rural communities in the north where commercial transport costly and largely inadequate.
