Although computers, cell phones, video games and other new technologies are a common part of most teenagers’ lives, little is known about how they influence the way young people interact with friends, learn in school, or spend their free-time. To better understand what it means to grow up digital, Global Kids has launched a Digital Media Essay Contest, inviting high school youth to write about how they use weblogs, instant messaging, games, remix music and other digital media. The MacArthur-funded competition will be hosted within the virtual world, Second Life, and will run throughout February and March 2006.
