The U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded Chicago $153 million to fund a new approach for transportation improvements that had been recommended by MacArthur grantees Metropolis 2020 and Metropolitan Planning Council. The funding will support a new bus rapid transit system, which will include the creation of bus-only lanes, new equipment, and new technology. The bus-only lanes will be piloted along four corridors that traverse several of the Foundation-supported New Communities Program neighborhoods. Metropolis 2020 and Metropolitan Planning Council are core grantees in the Foundation’s regional resilience portfolio.
