Founded in 1999, Jan Swasthya Sahayog (JSS), a non- governmental organization based in the tribal state of Chhattisgarh, works to develop and promote low-cost, high-quality health solutions for vulnerable populations in central India. This award supports JSS to strengthen quality standards in maternal health services in public health facilities in the Indian states of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh. This project is enhancing the capacity of teams from public health facilities to apply quality standards through a process of training, mentoring, and supportive supervision; improving accountability mechanisms in the facilities; enabling action to strengthen the continuum of care from community to facility; and, conducting advocacy to scale up initiatives for quality assurance in non-intervention facilities in both states. JSS is implementing the project in collaboration with the National Health Systems Resource Centre, the Health Ministry’s technical resource agency, and the two state governments.
