SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA —   Asociación Interamericana para la Defensa del Ambiente (AIDA) is a law and policy organization supporting effective legal frameworks for environmental conservation and human rights, primarily in Latin America. This grant builds on existing environmental law programs in the tropical Andes, with an emphasis on training, sharing of best practices, and creation of environmental justice networks in Bolivia and Ecuador. With these tools, AIDA advances strong legal protection for high-altitude wetlands and water sources, defense of environmental organizations that face a narrowing of the space for civil action, and legal processes to minimize environmental damage and human rights abuses from hydropower, mining, and hydrocarbon development.
