E-Tech International is a unique group of natural resource engineers and scientists that provides environmental technical assistance and training to indigenous federations, local, regional, and national governments, and civil society groups in less industrialized countries that face large-scale, extractive development projects. The purpose of this grant is to consolidate gains made by E-Tech in Ecuador and Peru in equipping and preparing indigenous peoples to monitor environmental impacts of oil, gas and mining development on indigenous lands and track the success of remediation efforts, largely in tropical forests. Through a variety of capacity-building and field activities, E-Tech scientists and engineers are transferring industry knowledge and technology to local organizations and peoples to ensure long-term sustainability of these programs. In Peru, E-Tech is developing an educational program and lab for indigenous environmental monitoring. In Ecuador, E-Tech provides mentorship and training for extractive industry-bound students and researchers at leading universities to conduct similar monitoring.
