The Transboundary Sustainability Workshop in Pucallpa, Ucayali, Peru provided an opportunity to discuss enhancing sustainability in critical conservation landscapes throughout the biodiverse Ashaninka/Asheninka Upper Ucayali River Basin. The Brazilian Ashaninka leaders of neighboring Apiwtxa shared their successful sustainability initiatives in the Ashaninka language to 65 Peruvian Ashaninka/Asheninka representatives. The presentation outcomes, in the form of a poster, declaration, videos, and pamphlets were shared at the United Nations Climate Change Meetings in Paris, France (COP 21). This workshop not only empowered Ashaninka/Asheninka people but demonstrated a successful indigenous conservation initiative that complements national commitments to mitigate climate change.
