Established in 1988, the Permanent Judicial Commission on Justice for Children is the first judiciary led interdisciplinary children’s commission in the United States. The Commission will use this grant to convene a national leadership summit to raise awareness of school discipline policies and practices that help children and youth succeed in school and reduce the flow of students into the juvenile justice system. The Commission’s goal is to highlight the problems associated with criminalizing disruptive school behaviors and using the courts to address discipline problems, and to promote school-justice partnerships to promote improved policies and practices.
