Nature Kenya promotes the study and conservation of nature in East Africa. Yala delta is Kenya’s largest freshwater wetland important for biodiversity and ecosystem services that support the livelihoods of 250,000 people dependent on the delta. This project will work with the local communities, district administration and private sector to undertake an assessment of the ecosystem services including water regulation, resource provision and carbon storage. These data will be used to develop a long-term land use plan that will identify key habitats to protect and degraded areas vital for biodiversity and ecosystem services. In addition ways to diversity and improve the livelihoods of local people will be assessed.
