Hispanics in Philanthropy (HIP) is a transnational fundraising and grantmaking organization that seeks to strengthen Latinx leadership, equity, and voice through partnerships with funders, nonprofits, and community leaders. It has partnered with 175 funders and 600 nonprofits through its offices in San Francisco and Mexico City. With this award, HIP is exploring how the private sector, including social entrepreneurs, for-profit and non-profit agencies, and impact investors might engage in broader work to strengthen professional midwifery in Mexico as a means to improve quality maternal and reproductive healthcare. HIP is researching, developing and providing interested parties with information about the financial feasibility of women-centered midwifery models, possible new markets, potential beneficiaries, and successful models from other countries. The project seeks to both increase both the legitimacy and the recognition of the midwifery model of care, and to create new formal work opportunities  for midwives, with the intention of expanding broad social acceptance needed for the public health sector to embrace this new model and improve quality of care.
