Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment creates knowledge and global leaders of consequence for a sustainable future through education and research, with a focus on climate and energy, marine and terrestrial ecosystems, and human health and the environment. Duke leads a coalition with seven partners, including MacArthur grantee Corporación Grupo Randi Randi, University of Nariño, the Ecuadorian Institute for Biodiversity, Pacific Environmental Research Institute, Ecuadorian university IKIAM, and the Colombian bird conservation organization FELCA. In coordination with the World Wildlife Fund, Altropico, and Ecolex, these partners are: (1) developing an online Wiki information platform for the Mira basin that provides the latest scientific and social information to the public; (2) establishing shared conservation priorities for the binational Mira River basin; (3) helping to establish water-use associations and other governance systems across the basin to improve conservation outcomes; and (4) developing a bi-national management strategy for the basin, including an integrated conservation action plan.
