This event is part of the Collective Impact series of exhibitions and performances designed to look at community engagement and social justice in artmaking.
Meiselas and Ewald are co-authors of Collaboration: A Potential History of Photography along with Laura Wexler, Ariella Aïsha Azoulay, and Leigh Raiford. The book sets collaborative practice as the framework through which to examine photographic history and authorship. Columbia College Chicago (CCC) is piloting the use of the book within the curriculum of CCC’s Photo Social Practice course in early 2024, and the research team (Meiselas, Ewald, Wexler, and Peter Fitzpatrick at CCC) plans to mentor students on incorporating elements of the framework in their own projects within the South Loop community. There will be an exhibition of work that will coincide with the CCC public arts festival Manifest. A public discussion among the co-authors is also set to take place in April of 2024.
