The Pader Girls Academy educates girls who have returned to village life in Uganda after being abducted and forced into marriage or pregnancy during the country's civil war. The MacArthur Foundation supports education and human rights in northern Uganda as part of efforts to improve girls' education and further the development of domestic and international system of justice. The Uganda Fund, which funds Pader, was created in 2006 based on research funded by the MacArthur Foundation about the ongoing needs in the region. It is a U.S. public charity that makes grants to enterprising community-based groups and local institutions in northern Uganda.
