Report Says U.S. Should Examine Low Enriched Uranium as Navy Fuel

A study by the Federation of American Scientists (FAS) assessed the benefits and risks of highly enriched uranium to fuel warships from a U.S. national security and nonproliferation perspective, and called on the Obama administration and Congress allocate adequate funding for research and development on advanced low enriched uranium fuels no later than 2017, in time for development of the next generation nuclear attack submarine.
