A report by a multi-state working group led by the governors of Wyoming and Montana outlines the opportunities and challenges for integrating power plants with carbon capture into the nation’s wholesale electricity markets. The MacArthur-supported report, drafted with assistance from the Great Plains Institute, outlines measures needed at the federal, state, and regional grid operator level to allow for roboust integration of carbon capture. Carbon capture is the process for capturing carbon dioxide waste and storing it where it will not enter the atmosphere and cause futher planetary warming. Twelve states are currently participating in the working group to explore additional incentives and policy reforms to support carbon capture expansion.
