The Vera Institute of Justice’s Incarceration Trends Project collects and analyzes information on current jail and prison populations and historic incarceration trends in every U.S. county. The Project aims to inform the public dialogue, advance research, and help guide change by helping justice system actors and others understand how their county uses jail and prison incarceration and how their county compares with others over time. The tool allows users to explore problems—such as excessive growth, or racial or ethnic disparities—within a jurisdiction.
