Prison Policy Initiative (PPI) released its annual “Whole Pie” report which visualizes mass incarceration in the United States. The report offers a picture of the 2.3 million people incarcerated in the justice system and includes where and why people are behind bars. A MacArthur grantee, PPI’s report includes five myths of mass incarceration and identifies the underlying issues behind those myths that reformers should address.
