To achieve bold systems change in criminal justice, narratives need to move beyond the easiest cases, according to a report from the Square One Project. A framework for telling broader stories includes sharing personal stories, integrating movements into storytelling, focusing on social norms, and emphasizing shared values. Often stories about reform react to negative assumptions and show exceptions. Instead, rooting narratives in shared values, like universal human dignity, can help shift perception of criminal justice.
