Ride share companies like Lyft and Uber generate more emissions than other modes of transportation, including taxis and private car trips, according to a report from the Union of Concerned Scientists. The report evaluated the climate impact of ride share apps—finding Uber or Lyft rides produce, on average, 69 percent more emissions per trip than the trip they replace. The MacArthur-supported report suggests electrifying the rides would make the most difference, cutting emissions by roughly half.
