Public service journalism provides vital information to people and develops trust in communities that are “hard to reach.” El Tímpano, a grantee, shared a Civic Partnerships Playbook that shares their model to sustain public service journalism through partnering with government agencies and nonprofits. With partnership and a revenue stream, it ensures journalism can continue to serve communities and helps reach community members with needed information.

Madeleine Bair, founder and co-executive director of El Tímpano, wrote in Poynter about developing civic partnerships that protected editorial independence and value how they served the low-income communities who needed their coverage most. By sharing their model, El Tímpano offers tools for other newsroom leaders to assess their own models and develop similar strategies and partnerships.
