A study that surveyed 1,400 Californians showed that a majority are more concerned than excited about artificial intelligence technologies. TechEquity commissioned the study with MacArthur support to better understand people’s knowledge, expectations, fears, and hopes for the AI industry and how they think government should respond. Almost half of respondents think AI is advancing too quickly, and 59 percent are concerned that it will only benefit wealthy corporations, not working people and the middle class. Many worry the government is only responsive to industry, and 70 percent say they want strong laws to make sure AI is fair.
