In a report on alternative investment strategies, Village Capital explores ideas to enable more inclusive support for entrepreneurs who may be from different places, industries, or cultural backgrounds. Only one in five entrepreneurs acquires formal funding, and venture capital is disproportionately invested in entrepreneurs who are white men in well-resourced geographic locations. The MacArthur-supported report draws on interviews with investors and entrepreneurs to identify three alternative investment strategies—revenue share structures, place-based multi-asset-class funds, and peer-based decision making—that can address these capital gaps and have potential to unlock funds for a wider range of projects that are worthy of investment.
