In 2020 and 2021, the U.S. saw a spike in community gun violence. With lives lost, strained communities, and declining trust in police and reforms, the Council on Criminal Justice convened a Violent Crime Working Group of diverse leaders to create an action plan to address and prevent community gun violence. They engaged with communities to create solution-focused, evidence-based steps that put people first. The 10 essential actions the Working Group recommends for cities are immediate, short-term actions that can have a significant impact on violence.
