Miami-flood-200

As many as 90 U.S. cities already face chronic inundation from rising seas caused by climate change, and that number could climb to as many as 670 by the end of the century, according to a climate impact analysis by the Union of Concerned Scientists. The MacArthur-supported report finds that as many 380 coastal communities could be spared, including 50 major U.S. Cities, if the international community is able to hold warming to between 1.5 and 2 degrees Celsius by the end of the century. Over the coming year, the Union of Concerned Scientists will conduct extensive outreach in the identified coastal communities to share the report’s findings and hold discussions with decision makers about climate impacts and preparedness planning.
