A Spanish-language report by MacArthur grantees Fundación para la Justicia y el Estado Democrático de DerechoDue Process of Law Foundation, and the Washington Office on Latin America provides expert recommendations for the development of a new General Prosecutor’s Office for Mexico. The report highlights the importance of open and public processes for selecting the Prosecutor and for the transition from the current Attorney General’s Office to the new Prosecutor’s Office. The recommendations, which were informed by a roundtable gathered by the report authors, help to conceptualize the establishment of a totally autonomous National Prosecutor’s Office that takes into account the complexity and seriousness of the crimes committed in Mexico, with an emphasis on supporting and assisting victims of crime.
