Courtroom Observations Promote Transparency in Administration of Justice
December 4, 2018 | Grantee Publications | On Nigeria

To promote transparency in criminal justice in Nigeria, Partners West Africa Nigeria observed criminal justice agencies in Federal Capital Territory, Lagos, and Ondo and published its findings. The organization observed 65 courtrooms in the three states as they implement the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, finding improvements in the speed of trials, transparency, and ongoing training on the Act. Key recommendations from the organization, a MacArthur grantee, include using more technology to record proceedings during trials and investigations, making facilities more accessible, and including a budget for witness expenses.
