fitness tracker

Researchers at The Citizen Lab at the University of Toronto Munk School of Global Affairs , a recipient of the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions, evaluated the type of data fitness trackers generate and determined that several models can expose users to hackers and cybercriminals. According to the report, Bluetooth technology on fitness devices can be detected, providing technology raiders access to users’ location, work out, and movement data. The report says the findings are concerning because the fitness tracker data are regularly being used in court cases and in corporate wellness programs.
