Geo Wash migration report

A paper from George Washington University assesses the strengths and weaknesses of various approaches to governance of international labor recruitment practices. The paper, commissioned by MacArthur, asserts that the increasing mobility of labor and the expanded reach of transnational companies have led to a power imbalance between corporations doing the recruiting and the individuals and communities with whom they negotiate their transactions. The authors state that among the most promising strategies for international recruitment governance is the creation of a public registry of recruitment companies and employers that sponsor foreign workers, and the creation of Migrant Resource Centers to support migrants so that they are more likely to report abuses when they occur.
