I Learn America follows a year in the lives of five immigrant students who attend the International High School at Lafayette, a public school in New York City dedicated to teaching newly arrived immigrant teenagers from more than 50 countries.  The film shows one school's efforts to prepare these students for the complexity and diversity of life in America and explores the immigrant experience through their stories.  In and out of school, these young immigrants navigate the challenges of adolescence while learning a new language and culture and, at the same time, remaining rooted in their native lands.
