The Atlantic, with support from MacArthur’s Safety and Justice Challenge, hosted an event at the Democratic National Convention that brought together law enforcement leaders, government officials, academics, and former inmates in a conversation about challenges facing the U.S. criminal justice system. Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney discussed the city’s work through the Challenge to reduce its incarcerated population by 34 percent over the next three years. The event included a discussion between MacArthur President Julia Stasch and Vikrant Reddy, Senior Research Fellow at the Charles Koch Institute, on diverse perspectives on criminal justice reform.
