With support from MacArthur, the Northeastern Illinois Planning Commission is providing interactive web-based tools, such as SmartPhones and GIS mapping technology, to help communities and regions plan for growth and investment. Community organizations in the 16 Chicago neighborhoods that are part of the Foundation’s New Communities Program are taking advantage of these new tools, which they are using for community organizing, natural resource planning, economic development and housing, to review zoning, and to enhance public services and community safety.
