In an exchange made possible by MacArthur’s International Connections Fund, American community development experts from the Chicago office of LISC met with their Russian counterparts in Moscow on June 10 to share strategies and experiences in working to improve urban neighborhoods. The experience highlighted similar challenges faced by Russian and American community development practitioners; for example, productively engaging communities, businesses, politicians and policymakers when designing public-private community development plans. Russian counterparts found that the experience accumulated in the last 40 years in American community development may prove useful in addressing a number of persistent challenges for Russia.
