Urban Juncture, which strives to build on the collective strengths of individuals and community organizations in Bronzeville, received the inaugural John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Creative Placemaking Award. Urban Juncture was recognized for investing in creative enterprises like Boxville, a weekly marketplace that is run out of shipping containers. The creative placemaking award, administered by MacArthur-supported LISC, emphasizes the importance of supporting a creative sector in Chicago that promotes equity, serves a community’s interests, and builds the character and quality of place.
