climate change

John P. Holdren, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology and Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, gave a presentation to the MacArthur Foundation’s Board of Trustees on the potential role of philanthropy in addressing climate change. Holdren advocated efforts and policies designed to mitigate climate change on the global level and to adapt to it on the local level. Holdren asserted that there is a niche for philanthropic funding in these efforts, given that inadequate funding is provided by the government and other bodies, and that partnerships across like-minded foundations could be particularly effective.
