Capital B, a new nonprofit news organization, centers Black voices, audiences, and communities. Black journalists are underrepresented in newsrooms, and Black communities are underreported and often misrepresented in news media. Capital B aims to counter this in the tradition of Black-led media: it supports Black journalists, focuses on Black audiences, and tells stories that are relevant to Black American’s lives. With MacArthur support, it opened its first local newsroom in Atlanta and plans to expand its network in a local-national model with deep community engagement.
