India may repeal a centuries old law that makes gay sex illegal in an effort to curb the infection rate of AIDS and HIV. The NAZ Foundation, a MacArthur grantee, filed a petition in 2001 to repeal the law. The petition was rejected in 2005 by the Court, arguing that the Indian society wasn't ready to accept legalized homosexuality. The NAZ Foundation then appealed to the Supreme Court, which earlier this year ordered the Delhi High Court to re-examine its decision.
