The MacArthur Foundation has made a five year, general operating grant to the Kohl Children’s Museum of Greater Chicago, a resource to children, families and schools in the region since 1985. Kohl is the only museum in the Chicago area that focuses on children from birth to age eight. With the October 2005 opening of its new facility in Glenview, the museum has more than doubled the public space of its previous building. As a custom-built structure, the new site is accessible and environmentally friendly. Kohl provides teacher training and field trip programming for selected schools in underserved neighborhoods of Chicago and its suburbs.
