Mexico’s Supreme Court of Justice ruled that the relatives of two migrants murdered in San Fernando, Tamaulipas, in 2011 should be recognized as “direct victims” by the Mexican state and, as such, granted access to information related to their relatives’ death. Until now, the relatives of the migrants were denied access to both the case files and the remains of the victims. The ruling was brought about in part due to legal support by MacArthur grantee Fundacion para la Justicia.
